On Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that he opposes anyone who sides with Israel as it’s a “state terror.”
“We do not approve of silence on the state terror that Israel blatantly carries out in Palestine,” Erdoğan added Iran’s Press TV reported. In a meeting with senior provincial officials from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Ankara, Erdoğan noted that “whoever is on the side of Israel, let everyone know that we are against them.”
Erdoğan, a radical Jihadi politician who is known to be an anti-semite, was dealt a massive blow earlier in 2019 when the opposition won control of Istanbul following a repeat mayoral election when Erdoğan’s AKP forced a re-vote.
In the meantime, the tension between Turkey and NATO countries continued to mound as Russia transported the first shipment of its advanced S-400 missile-defense system to Ankara. Erdogan threatened that Turkey would use the system in 2020.
In light of Turkey’s acceptance of the S-400, the US dismissed Turkey from the F-35 joint strike fighter program. The reason was that the Russian defense system can be utilized to gather intelligence on the advanced fighter aircraft.
“The F-35 cannot coexist with a Russian intelligence-collection platform that will be used to learn about its advanced capabilities,” the White House stated earlier this month.
“Turkey has been a longstanding and trusted partner and NATO Ally for over 65 years, but accepting the S-400 undermines the commitments all NATO Allies made to each other to move away from Russian systems,” the statement also said.
Russia is looking to improve ties with Ankara in order to exploit the tension with Washington.
Last month, Breaking Israel News reported that Erdogan suffered a heart attack.
