Workers removed thousands of notes with written prayers and requests to God from the cracks, nooks and crannies of the Western Wall in the early hours of Tuesday morning ahead of the High Holidays in the coming weeks. Rabbi of the Western Wall Shmuel Rabinovitch led the workers who removed the notes and then buried them in a Geniza, a special container for sacred religious texts, on the Mount of Olives, concluding the work by leading a prayer that God would hear and grant the requests written on the notes. Other routine work was also done to the stones, continuing he traditional cleaning and maintenance of the area which occurs at least twice a year before Rosh Hashanah and Passover.
